For Autism Acceptance Month we had the absolute pleasure of talking with Dr Okamoto, MD, President of the Hawaii Chapter of AAP and Developmental Pediatrician at Kapiolani Women and Children’s Hospital, Hawai’i Current screening tests for autism may be missing some children with autism. Clinical assessment is important, regardless of the M-CHAT-R/F results. It’s also critical to remember that not all children with autism have features in early childhood and instead, they may become apparent only later. A negative screening at a single point in time does not necessarily rule out autism New tests are in the works and virtual/AI options may be the future for Hawaii kids?
